European Bowling Tour loses two tournaments |
The European Tenpin Bowling Federation has announced that two further tournaments have withdrawn from the 2007 European Tour. In 2006, the Olympia tournament at Helsinborg withdrew from the 2007 tour reducing it to 21 tournaments.
This week, the organiser of the Gutperle Viernheim Open in Germany scheduled to be the 15th tour stop in September announced that due to the imposition of value added tax to entry fees and the effect of taxation of winnings on overseas bowlers, the tournament would have to be cancelled. The German tax authorities received nearly 33,000 Euros from the tournament in taxes resulting in the tournament making an operating loss of nearly 50,000 Euros. The tournament boasted the biggest prize fund on the tour of 100,000 Euros and a first prize of 25,000 Euros.
The Kungsbacka International Tournament has also announced its withdrawal. Scheduled to be the finale of the 2007 tour, the tournaments organisers have cited rule changes to the 2007 tour although the rules had been published before July 2006 when the 2007 tour was published. The Storm English Open at Lakeside Nuneaton will now be the final stop of the 2007 tour. |
