England's Ron Oldfield climbed all the way up the stepladder to win the Malta Senior Open. Ron defeated Sweden's Christer Danielsson 226-217 in the final match to take the title thanks to his 9 age pins after tying the match 217-217 scratch.  Ron had earlier defeated Germanny's Hermann Wimmer 225-193 and Belgium's Roger Pieters 257-192 after qualifying in fourth place for the final. Honorary Brit Stew Meadus finished in eighth place while Alan Jenkins, Mo Singleton, Gary Oakley, Jack Smith, Ian Horrell,  Mick Ince, Mike Halliwell, Lol Ellis and Ray Harrisson all cashed by making the top twenty four.

Italy's Hildergard Kuhn defeated Finland's Hannele Uotila 247-172 to claim the women's title. Kuhn had earlier defeated England's Jan Hodge 236-169 and Sweden's Ewa Krantz 224-172 after qualifying for the final in third place. England's Brenda Prat and Liz Pond finished in the top eight while Kaz Barfoot, Sue Richards and Bev Tolman also cashed in the top eighteen.
